In the weeks leading up to the 2012 Tony telecast, Broadway.com is posting videos of favorite Tony memories of this year’s nominees, with their own commentary. Kelli O’Hara, nominated for Best Actress for playing feisty bootlegger Billie Bendix in Nice Work If You Can Get It, looks back on her own performance on the 2006 telecast—and explains why she and Harry Connick Jr. were “scared to death.”
“I hate watching myself [on video], but I love the clip of Harry [Connick Jr.] and me doing “There Once Was a Man,” the number on the crate, in Pajama Game. We had to reverse the choreography for the Tony telecast, and I’m just not good at that, so I love watching our faces to see if I can tell that we were scared to death. He had some back issues, so we were both pulling it out of our pants. It’s fun to watch because it looks like we know what we were doing, but we didn’t at all!”
